Tiffa Scan / Anomaly Scan
What is the Anomaly Scan?
The anomaly scan is a detailed ultrasound performed around 20 weeks of pregnancy to assess your baby’s development and check for any abnormalities in the womb.
When Can I Have the Anomaly Scan?
The anomaly scan is conducted between 20 to 24 weeks of gestation.
What Does the Anomaly Scan Check For?
During the anomaly scan, we examine:
- Fetal body: A thorough assessment of the brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, bowel, kidneys, and limbs.
- Placenta: Position and health of the placenta.
- Amniotic fluid: The amount surrounding the baby.
- Fetal growth: Measurements to ensure the baby is growing as expected.
The primary aim of this scan is to identify any rare conditions affecting the brain, spine, heart, or other areas.
How is the Anomaly Scan Performed?
The scan is performed trans-abdominally (over the tummy) using an ultrasound probe.
Why Do I Need to Have the Anomaly Scan?
This is an essential scan to:
- Assess the baby’s overall development.
- Detect any abnormalities or conditions early.
- Provide reassurance about your pregnancy’s progress.
For any further concerns or abnormalities, recommendations for additional evaluations or follow-ups will be offered.
